The MTM Tank Flanging Machine is designed to provide the end user with a smart and simple machine to produce tanks for distribution transformers. The design incorporates a balance between automation and manual processing to ensure reliability and repeatability in the production process.
The Tank Flanging Machine consists of a fixed head stock which contains the drive system and the closing assembly for the forming dies. The dies are powered by two 10 HP electrical motors and gearboxs to produces 13,000 in-lbs of torque at 70 RPM at the drive wheels. An electric powered hydraulic pump is used to operate the cylinder for die closure. The pressure exerted during the forming process by the cylinder is controlled by proportional valves and provides the machine operator with fine adjustment of forming pressure (± 5 psi). The forming dies close parallel to each other without swinging though an arc. Stabilizing rolls exert a steadying force at two points during the forming process. These stabilizing rolls are manually adjustable via push button control to adjust for different tank diameters.
The tailstock has powered travel (to open or close) accommodating a range of tank lengths. The tailstock will support the tank from inside at three (3) points using a bevel gear box assembly. Via servo motor, the three contact points will move in one motion until contact is made with the tank. Once the assembly has secured the free end of the tank, the support assembly (on the tailstock) will rotate with the tank during the forming process.
